Chapter 37
IN THE DISCUSSION ROOM....
Korean: Hey, no one mentioned to us they are twins.
Nam: No one asked! Ok, I'm sorry. I left that out too.
May: The doctor said, this behavior is normal for her. Remember, she plays 3 people. If she is Jo now, then she can't remember what June did.
Fei: But we should atleast know her real identity, Jo or June?
Gigi: She'll be undergoing DNA testings.
Chi San: I hope she gets cured.
May: Yes, a pretty tough and sad illness.
IN THE HOSPITAL, IN MAN'S ROOM....[Chi San knocks on the door and comes in with a fruit basket...]
Chi San: Man? Man! [Man is not in the room....A Nurse passes by...] Nurse, where is this room's patient?
Nurse: Ms. Man?! That's odd. She was here a while ago. [Chi San quickly ran out....]
IN THE CHILDREN'S PLAYROOM OF THE HOSPITAL....
Man: Mui Mui, you don't play it like that. [plays with a little girl.] Let me help you. [then goes over to a little boy.] Yee, dee dee, what are you doing? [Suddenly Chi San stormed pass this room but saw Man in the cover of his eye. His scared and worried feelings ease so much just seeing Man. He rushed in the room. Man turns around as see him.]
Man: Hey, Chi San, how did you know.....[Chi San quickly hugged Man so hard before she could finish her sentence.] Chi San, what's wrong? [Man is extremely happy to see the worriness in Chi San's eyes. Unexpectedly, Chi San suddenly became the attention of the room as he decided to knee before Ah Man....] Chi San, what are you doing? Chi San....
Chi San: Ah Man, no word can express my feeling right now. [takes out a ring] I realized how much I need you and can't lose you. I have done everything I can do these fews days looking and worrying for you. I even pleaded by Tong Sum for help. I was completely hopeless. Nothing has changed the love I had and will have for you. I beg you Man, to let me be the one by your side everyday, the one to wake up every morning, making breakfast for you.....be the person to create children as adorable as these with you. Everything that has happened until this second was our past. Everything after this second will be our future. Would you help make this new beginning exist, together with me? [Man is in tears as she is so moved by Chi San's proposal. The nurses are giggling, seeing such a sweet and lovely proposal.]
Man[full of joy]: You are missing one of the basic elements, flowers.
Chi San[see his basket of fruit]: Can these replace the flowers?
Man[hugs Chi San and whispers in his ears]: I'll make dinner every night!!!
Chi San: Yes!!!! [lift Man and swings her around. He lefts her down and gently puts on the ring.] There is no backing out now.
Man: Call me, Mrs. Gong!
IN QUIN'S CAR....
Quin[on the phone]: Wow, really! Congratulations Man. [got so happy] Should we start calling you by Ms. Gong?
May: What? what?
Quin: Chi San and Man are going to get married.
May: Oh great! [suddenly a thought pops in mind] Bridesmaid! Oh, give the phone. [grabs the phone.]
Quin: Hey. How rude.
May: Uh-huh! Okay...[hangs up]
Quin: What did you say?
May: She said, we two work it out.
Quin: Gosh, you can be it if you are that desperate!
May: You said it.
[May's phone ring]
May: Hello? The results came? What?
Quin: What is it? I'll drive you back to the station first.
May: I guess you should come with me too.
AT THE HEADQUARTERS....[May and Quin runs in]
May: What's going on?
Fei: June is really June.
May: Sure she's not Jo?
Nam: She's Jo as well.
May: Huh?
Quin: Are you saying Jo does exist but only in June's mind.
Korean: Exactly.
Fei: At first we thought she was pretending to be her sister but the thing is these is no Jo, Jo never existed as life.
May: What? Then how come Nam told us she's a twin?
Nam: Hey, I only saw June a few times and she transferred to Columbia. I know all this from Steve himself. I met June before and Steve told me he is with Jo, June's sister. To think of it, I really never saw the two together at the same place and time.
May: That's because there is no twin.
Nam: Don't have to tell me twice. I was being told all this.
Quin: But anyway, June is still mentally disordered.
Sue: And she's also missing.
Quin: When? How?
Fei: Take a guess.
May: What, the bathroom trick again? I mean, I thought it only happens that often in movies. Who was in charged? [Eyes turned to Gigi]
Gigi: What?? I didn't mean to.
Quin: Come on it's not going to help blaming Gigi.
Korean: Yeah.
Nam: Okay, I told David to get June's full background. Here it is...[passes folders to everyone] Like I said again, I really don't know her. I'm just as surprised as you all will be.
Korean: Smart girl, straight A's, awards, do we really need to know this?..
David: Just keep on reading.
Quin: Ah, sign of childhood tragics.
May: Parents died from a car accident at age 10.
Korean: Damn, it gets worse as you read it. Do we really need to know this?
Nam: Something I know is that Steve really loved Jo, almost at the stage of considering marriage.
Quin: Bringing Steve up does ring a bell. Where is Steve buried? Oh right, they disappeared, atleast Steve did.
Fei: Could we contact his family and friends for info since Nam doesn't seem know much.
Nam: Gosh, the NYPD couldn't tell me anything, what is there to tell you? I thought of the family line but he has no family. His parents died when he was 18 and....
Quin: Oh, I see why Jo and Steve mix now. They both experienced early death of their parents.
Fei: Ok, there is an age difference. June at 10 and Steve at 18.
Quin: That maybe a reason on what caused June's illness. She might have handled this the wrong way. I'm predicting, since she has no family members left, she really wants one, Jo comes out. Steve experienced the tragic at 18, pretty mature by then. But June is different, she was so young, it was harder for her.
May: That answers something. But we need to find her in order to help her.
Fei: Wait, did anyone check her home?
Korean: Ah, no. Why do we want to do that?
Nam: What?
Fei: Do we even have to give out such order? Shouldn't it be something automatically done?
Korean: At home, are you serious she will be there afterall we are after her?
Gigi: Just go, we don't want them giving us the possiblity lectures.
May: Haven't you heard, the most dangerous place is also the most safest place?!
OUTSIDE JUNE'S APT...
[Korean kicks open the door...]
Fei: You over there, you check there.
May[shouts]: She in here.
Fei: What did you say Korean? [Korean sticks out his tougue as he walks in back of Fei]
May: June, come with us. [June wordlessly, holding on to Steve's picture walks with them out.]
IN THE MENTAL HOSPITAL....[Everyone is sitting outside of the June's room.]
Quin: I've examined her. She is still Jo now. Since she has no memory of June's acts, she just found out the death of Steve, which caused her to be like this. If she wants to be Jo, she can be Jo. Atleast, the June that was manifested in aggression and/or criminal behavior is gone for now. We are not sure when June will reveal herself again.
Nam: That's why she needs to be locked up.
Fei: One thing is for sure, until she becomes June again, the truth about Steve's death will always remain a mystery.
May: Hope she can recover.
Quin: It takes time, the other psychotherapists will help her. [A old man mopping the floor shows up.]
Old Man[mumbling to himself]: This world is full of nuts. Nuts here, nuts there. They come and go frequently. First left a insane male, then comes in a insane female. Sure, more work for this old man.
Korean: Hey, I didn't know the therapy thing actually works.
Quin: We don't get paid for sitting.
Old Man: No young ones, the man broke out. Don't think he has completely recovered yet.
Korean: You we saying?
May: If they have to come here, don't you think the chances are slighter?
Korean: Okay.
IN QUIN'S APT...
May[relaxingly eating chips on the sofa]: Have you picked out the date yet, Man?
Man[comes to the living room with water]: No, Chi San's aunt will do it.
Quin[closes the room door]: Man, I think Sum Oiy will enjoy being your flower girl.
Man: Thanks a bunch. She's just the cutest thing.
May: You found someone to be the ring boy?
Man: Yes, Chi San's little cousin.
Quin: Well, I'm so happy for you. [Man suddenly tilts her head and looks the other way.] Man, Man, Tong Sum will give you all her blessings no matter where she is. [They smile at each other]
Man: Thanks Quin.
AT THE AFTER FIVE PUB....
Nam: Wow, you are going to be a "Lo Chan" soon. How do you feel?
Chi San: Great, my pleasure to be one! I've been waiting for this day for too long. I know Man will be a great wife.
Nam: Ok, ok we know. Not like it's not written all over you face already.
Chi San: That day will be my important day. Fei, I know you won't chicken out for best man. You are my best man.
Fei: Best Man. You're found the wrong person. Offer it to Nam.
Nam: No, thanks. I don't take second hand offers.
Chi San: Hmm, Fei, I heard May is going to be the bridesmaid. Did anyone tell you?
Nam: Alright, alright. Just don't do that again. [paused] Should have told me sooner. [They guys laughed and cheered each other]
Chi San: So, what is it?
Fei: What is what?
Chi San: Not even considering to be my best man?
Fei: Well, what if I tell you, I'm not interested in being your best man? How does making it twice the fun, doubling the laughter sound?
Nam: Are you for real?
Chi San: She's going to be so happy.
Nam: You better treat her well. Prepared a proposal yet? Speech of some kind?
Fei: I don't need preparation.
Nam: Ha, good one...don't need prparation....[points at Fei and looks at Chi San] He doesn't need to prepare...
Chi San: Where have you been? That's our Fei!
IN THE BATHROOM...LEANING NEAR THE SINK....
Fei(Ok, how will I start? I don't want to sudden her. Wait, what am I talking about. Of course I want to surprise her. Ok...the first line...how should it be structed? Oh gosh, this sounds like back in the school days when I had to write essays. The right time and place, where? Wait, wait, I got it.....} [staring at himself in the mirror, with no fasical expression, less then a blank piece of paper...] Gwan, you are my all...will you marry me? [shockingly, a door of a stall swings back and forth...some guy comes out...]
Guy: Oh, throw that in the garbage can. [doing the hand thing while he talks] You are asking the woman to marry you for god sakes not asking her to pay your bills. I mean a big smiles would help. Can't you come up with something better than that? Look kid, let me give you a few pointers. I'm a good example. I marry the woman 10 years ago and she's still sitting at home doing the same chores 10 years later. I....[Fei wants to beat this guy up for interrupting but decides to leave and find a better place to think...] Hey, you don't believe me?
Fei: You look, I'm marrying her because I love her. If I wanted someone to do the chores, why don't I get a maid instead?! Do you even understand the meaning of loving a person? Your wife have done so much for you and you're here in the bathroom of a pub? You trade vows for those reasons and we should be committed by it. I feel sorry for your wife. If you married her, you are obligated to be her best husband. I.....(My god, I'm a genius. What am I doing? I should be copying this down. I'm on a role here....) I would kiss you if I could...but I'm saving it for my wife to be.....[quickly leaves]
AT NIGHT, IN MAN'S BEDROOM...
[Man has gone sleeping happily, so deep into a dream.....]
[In a church, the lovely music from the panio is being played. Man is in her wedding gown walking down the aisle to met her groom. She joyfully made her stop infront of the priest. Man and her groom exchanged vows. The groom flips the thing on her head(I don't know what's it called, hehe!), getting ready to kiss her. But Man stops him...]
Man: No, don't I'm scared. I don't want to see that you're not Chi San.
Chi San: Man, don't be scared anymore. I'm Chi San. I will always be the Chi San that will love you forever.
Man: Chi San! [They hug and then kissed each other....]
THE NEXT DAY...[Fei brings Quin and Sum Oiy up to "their" apartment. Fei opens the door.]
Quin: Fei, you...you bought it all along?
Fei: Yes, I had it and kept it, always!
Quin: Why are you bringing us here today?
Fei: The same reason I brought you here last time. [Bends down to speak to Sum Oiy.]
Sum Oiy: Daddy, mommy, this is bigger than home.
Fei: Now, Sum Oiy, why don't you sit here. And you watch Daddy, proposal to Mommy. You will be our witness. [Quin got the hint, she smiles sweetly]
Quin(no wonder he's not being Chi San's best man): Fei, what are you doing? What are you thinking?
Fei: How does this look? [takes out a ring]
Quin[shocked]: It's, it's the same one you had for me before.
Fei: Took me some time to find it and here it is!....
