Chapter 38


IN FEI AND QUIN'S APT....[Fei takes out the ring...]
Quin[looks into Fei's eyes]: How did you find it?

Fei: I will tell you the truth. This...

Quin[smiles]: This isn't the same one, I know. It's ok. Like you use to say, the past is the past and the present is now the present. The old ring is our past, let this new ring lead to our future. [turns around] I'm telling you, this time you are not getting away with it that easily. [holds her left hand tightly before Fei could do what he did last time and slip the ring in before anything.]

[Sum Oiy, like Fei told her to, sat there and watched. For her age, she may not understand what her parents are doing but she finds this pretty funny and weird.]

Fei[He gets back on his feet]: I'm serious, I will not do that anymore. [he turns Quin around, facing him.] Sum Oiy, now it's your turn.

Quin: What, you drawn our daughter into this too?

Sum Oiy: Yes, Daddy! [She reached over on the side of the sofa and took out flowers. Quin could only give out the warmest smiles. Sum Oiy, holding on to the flowers, walked up to them.] Wow, here Daddy. This is heavy. [Fei takes it and gives it to Quin. Sum Oiy waddles back to the sofa. Quin was speechless. She couldn't say much so she decides to hand the stage all to Fei.]

Fei[Fei and Quin's eyes are inseparable now]: Kwan[holds on to Quin's hands],...

[Talk about calling at the worst times...Quin's phone rang.]

Fei[in a whinny voice]: Kwan...don't answer it.

Quin[looks at her phone]: It's only May. It'll take only a second. [She accepts the call...] Hello May, you know you are calling at the wrong time.[smiles and look at Fei. She listens to May talk on the phone. Suddenly, her smile turns to a big frown. Her face is so shockingly serious now...] Okay, I'll come now.

Fei[noticed the sudden changed of expression]: Kwan, what's wrong?

Quin: Fei, I promise I'll be back very quickly. Something urgent happened.

Fei: I'll drive you there.

Quin: No, you have to stay and watch Sum Oiy. [She holds Fei's arms.] I'll try not to take too long. I still have to hear those words. [smiles and leaves the apt.]

Sum Oiy: Where is mommy going?

Fei: Mommy has something to do. She will come back very soon. Are you hungry? Daddy can cook! [lifts Sum Oiy over to the kitchen....]


IN THE MORGUE....[outside the room, May and Quin are leaning against the wall]
May: He had lung cancer and he never told us.

Quin: I really thought he will have a fresh start someday.

May[uncontrollingly grabbed on to Quin and cried..]:....

Quin: May, May, let it go. Atleast he left at peace.

May[wipes her tears]: I almost forgot. [takes out an envelope.] Vincent left you this. The officers told me he specificly only wrote to you. It must be something important.


IN FEI'S APT...
May: She really didn't call you?

Fei: No, she said she'll come back very soon.

May: It's passed 5 hours since I met her at the morgue.

Fei: Morgue? What where you doing there? [The door bell rings] It might be Kwan. [Fei excitingly runs over to get the door. He openeds the door but...] Chin Chin?

Chin Chin[standing outside will luggages]: I don't mean to disturb you at this hour.

Fei: No, come in. Where were you these past months? We were worried about you.

May: Chin Chin? [Chin Chin smiles to May]

Chin Chin: I came to get my stuff. Here this is my reachable number[hands it to Fei]

Fei: Can you handle it? Did you need help of any kind?

Chin Chin: No, I'm fine. I may be disabled but I can still do a lot of things.

Fei: I don't mean it like that.

Chin Chin: I know.

Fei: Chin Chin, just help yourself.

Chin Chin: I will. [walks inside to the bedroom]

May: We were saying?

Fei: Yes, why where you and Kwan at the morgue?

May: Vincent died yesterday. He died from lung cancer.

[in the room, packing...Chin Chin heard what May said.]

Fei: Oh but it still doesn't explain where Kwan can be now.

May: I don't know either. But I find something strange. Before Vincent passed away, he wrote a letter to Quin and only to Quin. When Quin read the letter, she barged out of the place. I couldn't catch up with her. I really want to know what startled her like this.

Chin Chin[in the room]: A letter?

Fei: I'm confused now.

May: Talk about confused, Vincent have been acting stranged from the day he entered prision. He kept warning Quin to becareful of someone but he never named any names to us.

Chin Chin[steps out]: I'm leaving now.

Fei: You're done? [looks Chin Chin in the eyes] Remember, if you need us, just give us a call. [Chin Chin nods her head and left the apt...]



IN QUIN'S CAR...[Quin got in and droved confusingly. She lightly crumble the letter, not knowing what to do.]
Quin:(I should have known, known there would be some kind of consequences I would have to face. Why did he have to let me know now? I remembered he repeatedly gave me warnings. And I suppose, this is his final warning?! How can I be so selfish? I, I totally forgot about Chin Chin. Even that the fact, she tried to kill him, that isn't the point now. I know I owe her....I can not and don't have the guts to say "yes" after today....)

[Quin started to speed her car at an unsteady pace. She seem to have lost control of herself. She wanted to stop the car but her body is not letting her. A part of her wants to stop and park the car aside but the other half wants her to never stop driving. Strickingly, she ran into a pole, having the car up on the sidewalk. This finally stopped her. Luckily, she wasn't hurt as the air bags actually worked but her car is definitely damaged. She has no mood to care now. She got out of the car and headed into a 7-11. Walking out, sipping a can of beer in her hand and holding the other 5 cans in a bag she made her stop and sat on the other side of the block, directly facing the car. She have never done such a thing before. She just wants to forget about life, even for a second.]
Quin: Psychiatrist are only human beings. I don't always have to be awake....[She drowns herself with beer for at least an hour, her phone rings] Talk to me. [hiccups]

Fei: Kwan?! Kwan, where are you? May told me everything. Why did you ditch her?

Quin[drunked already]: Fei? [laughs] Fei, why did...[burps] why did he have to tell me now?

Fei: What, what are you talking about? Tell you what? Who? Are you drunk? [Fei can't picture why Vincent's death affected her so much to have Quin drunk...] Tell me where you are now, let me pick you up.

Quin[walking unsteadily]: Oh, you don't have to come, I droved.

Fei: You can't drive like this. Don't go anywhere.

Quin[laughs again]: Oh yeah, I just hit a very expensive pole, I can't drive.

Fei: What? Are you hurt?

Quin: No, I'm fine. Just give me some space.

Fei: No, what is happening to you? We....[suddenly he hears a huge explosion through the phone. He can hear the dropping of Quin's phone.] Kwan? Kwan?

[Quin's car suddenly exploded. Quin just stood in the middle of the street, completely frozen....]


IN THE HOSPITAL...[Quin sat there, unemotionally staring at nothing.]
Fei[running toward Quin]: KWAN, you scared me. [hugged Quin.] Doctor, is she hurt?

Doctor: Don't worry. She's ok. She's only drunk. But she needs to stay for further observations to detect any health problems or side affects from the explosion.

Quin: Fei, it exploded. I saw it explode. It was so yellow...so red.

May: Quin, why are you like this?

Quin: May, I'm fine. Fei, don't worry. My head hurts but I'll be ok.

Korean[walks in]: Yes, she'll be ok but her car definitely is not ok.

Fei: What caused the explosion to occur?

May: She hit a pole right? Did it cause a gas leak?

Quin: Oh yeah, I hit a pole...will I be charged for vandalizing public property? Oh no, what about arson?...[leans back down on the chair]

Fei: Don't mind her, she's drunk.[trying to hold her still]

Korean: Drunk and in danger. Check this out. It was no gas leak. Someone formed a bomb under Ms. Mo's car.

May: Definite?

Chi San[walking in]: The bomb specialist confirmed it just now.

Fei: I don't understand. Who else wants to kill her now? [Fei's phone rang. He answers the call..] Chin Chin? What's up?

Quin(Chin Chin?):....

Fei: Oh, she's fine now. Thanks for your concern. She'll....[Quin grabbed the phone and ran off..]

Quin[hiding behind a wall near an exit she talks to Chin Chin]: Stop it. I know what you are up to. Vincent told me everything.

Chin Chin: I don't know what you are talking about.

Quin: Denial will not work. I beg you, let's just stop this. I don't want to convict you, I don't want Fei to know about this.

Chin Chin: Trust me, I had nothing to do with this. I just found out on the news. I had nothing to do with anything. Don't believe Vincent, I didn't attempt to kill you in the hospital....

Quin: Did I mention anything about the hospital? You blew yourself. Whatever it is, please let me help you. I have been waiting for your return, do you know that?

Fei: Kwan, what are you doing? [Quin stops talking]

May: Quin?!

Fei[Fei took over the phone]: Hello? Chin Chin? [she hanged up.]

Quin: It's over. (I know Fei will be extremely upset if he finds out the Chin Chin he knew turn out to be like this....) [She walks back]

May: Did you hear what Quin said?

Fei: Not all of it.

May: What is up with her?


IN A PUB....[Chi San and Fei sits in a round table...]
Nam[walks toward them]: Hey, sorry I'm late. What happened? May was unclear on the phone. [sits down]

Chi San: Someone tried to bomb Quin into pieces...

Fei: She's acting wierd...too wierd.

Nam: Affects from the bomb, maybe?

Fei: No, something to do with that letter, the letter Vincent wrote.

Chi San: And what about Chin Chin?

Nam: This seems like so heavy duty. Fei, weren't you going to propose to Quin today?

Fei: Yes, I was in the middle of it, May called and she left me hanging.

Nam: Oh!

Fei: Now I don't know when I can slip in my proposal after what happened today.

Chi San: Don't worry. She knows what she's doing.

Fei: I don't think you two have to wait for us. I still question if I will ever get my proposal done. [paused] It just breaks me into pieces seeing Kwan like this. I don't even know what's going on with her and she doesn't seem on planning to tell me.

Nam: Why don't you ask Chin Chin?

Fei: I have a feeling this is something serious. If you were to hear Kwan's tone on the phone... I can tell you she was more awake them anyone of us.


IN THE HOSPITAL..QUIN'S ROOM...
[The lights are closed and no one is in the room but Quin. Her eyes roles around staring at the ceiling. She can even hear the tick tocking of the clock on the wall. Her heart is calm now, giving her the chance to ponder over everything that has happened. She roles over to the bathroom side as she hears footsteps approaching toward. The knob is turned. Now Quin is not alone anymore. She hears the person searching for something. She suddenly pops up from bed...]
Quin: Are you looking for this? [she shows the letter Vincent had wrote.]

Chin Chin: He really did tell you, didn't he?

Quin: You came for this?

Chin Chin: Not the only reason.

Quin: To kill me again?

Chin Chin: No, I wanted to see your condition, believe it or not.

Quin: How do you expect me to believe you?

[Chin Chin couldn't take the questioning, she ran out of the room...Quin followed her...Fei came around the corner with food...He saw Quin running after someone, so he followed too...But on the way, Fei was blocked between the wheeling of a patient. He was left behind.]


OUTSIDE OF THE NEAREST POLICE STATION FROM THE HOSPITAL....
Quin: Chin Chin, stop running.

Chin Chin[kept on running but with difficulty]:.....

Quin[caught up and blocked her]: You want to give yourself in?

Chin Chin: Isn't this what you want?

Quin: No, this is exactly the opposite. This is the outcome I never wanted to see.

Chin Chin: You won't believe me. I admit, I did try to kill you the time in the hospital, so what Vincent told you was the truth but that's it. That's all I did.

Quin:....

Chin Chin: Why would I admit to that and not the rest? Because I didn't do it. The whole time I left, I was receiving therapy in America. I know I had problems before and I can admit to that. Since I came back, I have recovered. The only reason why Vincent agreed to cover up for what I did is because he needed someone to take care of his grandmother. That is everything.

Quin[somehow I actually do believe her words]: I, I believe you. I do. Please don't do this. I don't want you to be penalized for this one mistake.

Chin Chin: I understand why Fei loves you now, I really thank you for saying this to me. And I don't regret for leaving. I know I've something right.

Quin: We are still obligated to take care of you.

Chin Chin: No, it will only worsen me. We can always be distant friends.

Quin[walking together]: Let me take you home.

Chin Chin[laughs]: No, let me bring you back to the hospital.

Quin: No need, I secretly check out already without anyone knowing.

Chin Chin: So you planned this act?

Quin: Just say I wanted to help you.


[Fei finally caught up....]
Fei[shocked]: Why are you two together?

Quin: Let's go home.

Chin Chin: Yes, I'm tired.

Fei: Can someone fill me in?

Quin: Fei, just go.


AT THEIR APT...
Fei: Why are you bring me here, 4 a.m. in....[Quin quickly pushed Fei against a wall and cover his mouth...]

Quin: Don't speak. Where the ring? [Fei takes it out]

Fei: Here, what are...[Quin covers his mouth again]

Quin[picks up the ring from Fei's hand]: Do you know why people wear rings? A ring is shaped in a circle. A cirlce symbolizes eternity. Do you know why people wear it on the left hand? Our heart is formed on the left side. [takes the ring and slowly slips it in her middle finger of her left hand] Do you know why I'm willing to wear your ring again? [goes to her purse and takes out another ring. She takes Fei's left hand and slips that ring in his ring finger]

Fei:....

Quin[waits for Fei to talk]

Fei: What, you said I can't speak.

Quin: You can speak now.

Fei: Because I love you and you love me.

Quin: Not only that. After this long day, I realized anything can happen unexpectedly. I may not be here tomorrow, who knows. Say I do...now...please

Fei: I most certainly do.

Quin: I do too. [taks the ring and slips it into Quin's ring finger.]

Fei: Okay, we are husband and wife now?

Quin: Yes, you are stuck. I don't care, if anything does happen, Sum Oiy is not getting another mother.

Fei: What? We are just married 15 seconds ago and you are talking about death and me getting another woman? I guess that explosion did hit your head pretty hard.

Quin: Seriously, I can not wait. I don't mind if I don't walk down the aisle or exchange vows with witnesses. As long as we are married now, this is the offical thing.

Fei[hugs Quin]: Well, I guess you are giving me the easily way out. You are the best.

Quin: No, mister, weddings are traditional, it's a must. This way is just giving you a no backing out situation.....


Tin Tin: How do you like this change? It seems like Quin proposed instead of Fei, hehe! Please don't kill me for ending here! Note this is already the 38th chapter...aiming to end in 40. Anyway, so who is behind the bombing attacks? Do you all know yet? Is Chin Chin's words truthworthy? Will Fei and Quin's happiness last? Stay tuned....
