Chapter 39
IN FEI AND QUIN'S APT...
[Fei left the joking expression and wrapped his hands around her waist. Their eyes soften deeply into each other as they spoke...]
Fei: Backing out? Kwan, do you know how long have I been waiting for this day? I just realized, not only girls wish for hand and marriages but guys do too. At least for my sake.
Quin: I know, I feel the same as well. [They hugged tightly, let go and stared. Their eyes suddenly was soaked with water of grateful tears as they think back the past occurrences.]
Fei: Kwan, the very moment we hugged, I stepped my foot back into the past. I redeemed some very unforgetable times of our past...very hurtful times, it hurted so much. Together we have gone through so many uncountable situations that clearly have proven our love for each other. I really thank god for giving me this day, tonight, that you are standing safely in my arms. I know we are the match made from heaven that needed to go through continuous obstacles, one after another as testings of our love. Obstacles that profound our meaning of life, love and ourselves. I hope after tonight, after our proposals being said from the bottom of our hearts, we will forever life together...
Quin[couldn't resist but to release tears]:...till our hair turns white.
Fei[wipes her face with his fingers]: Don't cry silly girl. [They wrapped around each other tightly and looked up the solid black sky.]
Quin: What nice scenery of a full moon with the skies full of stars to suit our mood.
Fei: I promise you, we will forever view the night together, each and every night.
Quin: I know we will. Let's watch the sun rise.
Fei: Sure and then till morning we can bring Sum Oiy for tea.
IN THE STREETS...
Man: Will Quin be ok?
Chi San: She has Fei, that's quite enough.
Man: It's almost our weddings. I hope nothing will interfere. [Sees the bank] Oh, I have to make a deposit. You stand here.
Chi San: Ok, be quick we have to meet with the guys. [he watches Man go into the bank. Then he turns around to look at the displays from the store next to it. He suddenly stood still, staring at an object. Showing a smiles, he also shows regret. His hand is on the window, trying to touch the object...]
[Man was standing there, watching Chi San. She feels heart breaking to see this sight, seeing his sorrow over a clown.]
IN A RESTAURANT...
Sum Oiy: Mom, I don't want this. [cross holding her chopsticks, she flicks little pieces of food away on her plate.] It's green and yucky.
Quin: Ok, ok darling. Mommy will get it out for you.
Fei[pats Sum Oiy's head]: What else do you want to eat?
Sum Oiy: Ice Cream!
Fei: They don't serve Ice Cream here.
Sum Oiy: Then I'll take the tofu pudding. [eyes it as the lady wheels by her cart.]
Quin: Here, now you can eat. It's all gone.
Sum Oiy: Thank you mommy, daddy. [Fei brings over the tofu pudding.]
Quin: I'm heading to the bathroom. Sum Oiy, do you need to go?
Sum Oiy[busy taking bits out of everything, talking with a mouth full of food]: No mommy. [Quin walks away.]
[Minutes later...Chi San, Man, Nam and May arrives]
Fei: You all are early today.
Nam: There was a huge traffic jam a few blocks from here.
May: We could have even walked but half the streets were being blocked.
Fei: For what? [they all took a seat]
Chi San: The other officers believe that they found the lunatic that was lose a month ago hanging around this area. I think they are skill chasing for him.
Man: Ok, enough about the crazy man talk. Sum Oiy is here. [hinting]
Sum Oiy: Uncle Chi San, Auntie Man! God Ma, God Pa!
May: Honey, did you just call me God Ma? [Nam looked the other way]
Sum Oiy: Look, God Pa gave me this. He told me to call Auntie May God Ma from now on. [shows everyone a dollor coin]
May: You brided the child?
Fei: Hey, I don't want to arrest my head and my daughters God father. [everyone laughs] Oh yeah, you two have to find yourself another flower girl.
Man: As much as we love Sum Oiy, we won't take her away from Quin.
Chi San: Yes, wouldn't do such thing!
Nam: Quin, yeah, where's Quin?
Fei: She's at the bathroom....for...[checks his watch] 40 minutes?
May: What? She's been out that long?
Man: Let's go find her. [Man and May goes off]
[May opens into the bathroom...]
Lady: Miss, Miss?! [Quin is shaking her head on the floor, getting back her consicious.]
May: Quin?!
Quin: Huh? What?
Man: My god, she fainted?
Quin: I fainted?
Lady: I found her here on the floor 5 minutes ago, I was about to call for an ambulance.
May: Thanks miss. We'll take it from here. [Lady leaves. Man and May helps Quin up on her feet.]
Man: How are you feeling?
Quin: I'm fine. I feel normal.
May: But why and how did you faint?
Man: We should bring you to a doctor.
Quin: No, it's ok. I don't think I need it. [takes her balance on her own] Look, I'm fine.
[At the table]
Fei[walking up to Quin]: Kwan, where were you?
Man: She fainted in the bathroom.
Quin: Don't make it sound that severe.
Fei: What? Are you ok now? [checks ever inch of her.]
Quin: You're holding me too tight. Fei, I'm fine.
Fei: We need to get you to a doctor.
IN THE STREETS....[Nam and May are walking hand in hand]
May: I hope Quin is going to be ok.
Nam: Don't worry. She's a good person. She'll be ok.
May: Yes....wait, what was the all about?
Nam: What?
May: Don't pretend.
Nam: Ohhh that. [smiles] Don't you want to be called that someday?
May: What are you trying to say?
Nam: No, don't get me wrong. I don't want to scare you with what they are doing.
May: I'm actually happier this way. I'm not looking forward to marriage that soon.
Nam: Me too. Those two couples have gone through so much to get at their stage. But we are...
May: Simply. I like that. I believe that we will someday reach to that stage.
IN A MALL...
Chin Chin: What did the doctor say?
Quin: I don't remember the exact words, I have to wait for the report.
Chin Chin: But are you feeling healthy now?
Quin: Yes for the umpteenth time.
Chin Chin: Just take care. Wow, it's so sudden.
Quin: What are you refering to?
Chin Chin: The weddings of course.
Quin: You're not upset are you?
Chin Chin: No, of course I'm not. I'm giving you all my blessings.
Quin: The truth?
Chin Chin: Yes. I don't mind at all. You and Fei are my two best friends.
Quin: Then would you mind if I ask you to be my bridesmaid?
Chin Chin: I thought you'll never ask. [leaving the mall..]
Quin: I already have a elegant gown reserved for you.
Chin Chin: You sound so sure I'll say yes.
Quin: I can read people like a book. [they giggled...Quin suddenly feels uncomfortable..]
Chin Chin: What's up?
Quin: I don't know, I don't feel safe all of a sudden.
Chin Chin: I'm getting that feeling too.
Quin: Is someone following us?
Chin Chin: You want to look back?
Quin: We'll check from the reflection of the glass windows from the stores. [They walked slowly to get a picture from the glass]
Chin Chin: I don't see anyone suspicious.
Quin: I don't either.
NEXT DAY...AT QUIN'S OFFICE...
Quin[hears knocking on the door]: Come in.
Secretary[walks in]: Ms Mo, this package is for you.
Quin: Oh yeah, thanks, drop it on the table.
Secretary: Is there anything else?
Quin: Bring me the next appointed client's folder.
Secretary: Yes, called Mr. Fong...right away. [runs out and comes back within seconds] Here.
Quin: Thanks, that's it. [secretary leaves and closes the door. Curious on the package, she finally struggles to open it. As she opens the box, she suddenly screamed out in terror...it was a hand, a hand with a deep scar..] It's fake?! [she examines it.]
[The secretary opens the door frightfully.]
Secretary: Ms. Mo? Are you ok?
Quin: I'm fine. [Secretary sees the box.]
Secretary: Ahh, we should call the cops.
Quin: Maybe. [something clicks in mind] Did you say my next appointment is with a man, Mr. Fong?
Secretary: Yes, why? [Quin quickly flips though the file. She sees the bold letters, ALAN FONG HOI LUN on the name line...]
Quin: It's him?
Secretary: Who?
Quin: He's suppose to be in...he was the one who broke out!?
Secretary: Ms. Mo, what are you talking about?
Quin: Don't worry, I'll call Tsui Sir.
[Quin dials for Fei]
Quin: Hello?
Korean: The Police station.
Quin: Korean?! Where's Fei?
Korean[looks around]: He doesn't seem to be at his desk now.
Quin[suddenly hears slow footsteps approaching from the outside]:....
Korean: Ms. Mo?
Quin[frighten]: Help me find Fei. Please help me find him now.
Korean: Ms. Mo, are you ok?
Quin: I'm so scared, help me find him.
Korean: Ms. Mo? Do you want me to come over?
Quin: He's coming. I don't know what to do. [The door opens, Quin drops the phone and scrunches up sitting on the floor while Korean is still calling for her. She has her head looking down, covering it with her arms.]
Fei[walks in]: What with you secretary? [shock seeing Quin] Kwan? What are you doing? [worries] Kwan? [runs up to her]
Quin[recognizes the voice, picks up her head]: Fei! [feels relieve and went up to hug him tightly]
Fei[wraps his hands around her]: Kwan? Why are you like this? Tell me.
Quin: Fei. I really wanted to see you and here you are. [carries a big smiles]
Fei[finally sees the box]: What is this?
THE HEADQUARTERS...[walking into the office]
Chi San: If his purpose is for Quin again, then we will have officers surveillancing 24 hours.
Nam: Hey, you'll have Fei stuck to you like crazy glue.
Quin: Thanks guys.
Nam: Just doing our job.
Quin: If you catch him, please notify me.
Korean: This guy is a lunatic. What can you say to him?
Quin: I don't know. (just words from my heart)
THE NEXT DAY...OUTSIDE OF THE A CLINIC...[Fei upsettingly escorts Quin down the stairs.]
Quin: I don't believe it. [turns around, trying to run back upstairs.]
Fei[stops her]: Kwan, please don't be like this.
Quin[starting to cry]: She told me, she told me that I'm diagnosed with cancer.
Fei[sobs as well]: Kwan, don't worry. I will be by your side all the way. You're won't be alone.
Quin: No, I will not be you burden. [She ran across the street during the red light.]
Fei[scared]: Kwan, becareful. [He runs after her but was blocked in between by a truck. Before he knows, Quin is out of sight.]
IN FEI'S CAR...
Fei[on the phone with May]: I've been driving for hours and I don't know where she is.
May: What? No one is watching her. And the next thing you telling me is that she has cancer?! We have to find her. This is the Fong Hoi Lun's best chance if he ever find Quin before us.
Fei: I know.
David[runs in]: May, I lost Sum Oiy.
May: What?
Fei: Who's that? David? He lost Sum Oiy?
CROSSING THE STREETS TO SUM OIY'S SCHOOL...
[Quin's phone rang but she didn't pick up. She saw that she has voice mail, so she answer that. She listens to it and it was Fei.]
Quin: Sum Oiy is missing?! [She runs over to the school.]
[She was about to go inside the school but she heard a voice calling her..]
Sum Oiy: Mommy.
Quin: Sum Oiy? [she turns around, running over to her. She sees Sum Oiy holding an ice cream cone. Without thinking, she smacked the cone of Sum Oiy's hand, forbiding her to take another bit. She hugs and lift her up] Don't eat that. You scared mommy. Why are you here?
Sum Oiy[still frighten over what Quin did]: Mommy. I was with Suk Suk(uncle).
Quin: What uncle?
Sum Oiy: I don't know. He gave me candy and I didn't eat it. But he gave me ice cream and I love ice cream.
Quin[smiles]: Mommy will buy you another one.
Fei[shows up]: Daddy will buy you one too.
Sum Oiy[shouts]: Daddy! [Quin lets her down and she runs to Fei.]
[Fei and Quin's eyes met. Quin quickly ran to Fei as well.]
Quin: I'm sorry. I can't run away because I love you two too much.
IN FEI AND QUIN'S APT...
Man: Thank god Fei found you.
May: Don't ever scare us like that again.
Quin: I won't make everyone worry for me again.
Chi San: Aunt decided that on the 15th is the best day.
Nam: That's the friday of next week.
Quin: So quick?
Fei: Don't worry, you family will be back by then for our wedding.
Quin: I'm not worrying about that. There's so much we have to do. Make reservations. Wedding gown fittings. Send on invitations cards. Wait I don't even have the cards yet.. Oh no. And...
Fei: Kwan, calm down. We're in this together(refering to her sickness). We'll do everything together.
