Chapter 40

NEXT DAY...EARLY IN THE MORNING...[The phone rings]
Sum Oiy[walking out half awake]: Daddy, mommy, the phone is ringing. [She hears no reply so she picks up the phone herself.] Hello?

A man: Hello?

Sum Oiy: Hello? Mommy is sleeping.

A man: ?? Can...

Sum Oiy[interrupts]: Daddy is sleeping too.

A man: Are...

Sum Oiy[charge in again]: Sum Oiy no en casa! (Sum Oiy is not home!)

[Fei and Quin are watching Sum Oiy by their bedroom door.]

Quin: What have you been teaching our daughter?

Fei: I was about to ask you cause she's speaking Spanish. And I don't know Spanish.

Quin: Television, I suppose?! She did live in NYC for years.

Fei[laughs and goes over to Sum Oiy]: Sum Oiy, who are you talking too?

Sum Oiy[made a cute face]: Yo no se. (I don't know)

Fei: ?? [Quin laughed all the way. Fei answered the phone.] Hello? I'm sorry. Who am I speaking to?

A man: Very cute daughter. Anyway, this is from Dr. Wong's office. Can I speak to Ms. Mo Siu Kwan?

Fei[became serious]: Yes. You can talk to me.

A man: We call to pay an apology. We are deeply sorry. There has been huge mix-up with the patient's report due to the crash of our system's computers. Unfortunately, we have mixed Ms. Mo's report with someone elses. We are greatly sorry for the depression it caused. But in your case it is fortunate. I see you have a very adorable daughter. How doesn't a joy of another child speaking Spanish in the house sound?

Fei: Are you sure? No cancer?

A man: Definitely not. She is 2 months pregnant, that's all. Please come back for daily check-ups.

Fei[hangs up and quickly lifts Sum Oiy up]: Sum Oiy, you are going to have a baby brother or baby sister.

Sum Oiy[confused]: Porque? (Why?)

Fei[acts annoyed]: Quit it.

Quin: Fei, this is no joke is it?

Fei: Of course not. I'm going to have another kid. [Sum Oiy is stuck in the middle with Fei and Quin hugging so tightly]

Sum Oiy[??]: Que pasa? (What's happening?)....

[few minutes later..in their bedroom.]
Fei[all dressed]: Let me make the food today. You stay home with Sum Oiy and rest. I'm going to tell everyone at work.

Quin: This is our second time, you don't have to be that excited. At least keep it to yourself.

Fei: This time is the first time for me to know that I'm a father before you went out of my life.

Quin: Are we bringing the past up now, are we?

Fei: No, whatever you say is right.

Quin: No, I don't want to sound like the unreasonable one.

Fei: Ok, ok. [suddenly realizes that he's missing his gun]

Quin: What is it?

Fei: I can't find my gun.

Quin: Are you sure? Did you misplace it? [Sum Oiy screams from the outside] Sum Oiy. [They ran out]

Sum Oiy: Daddy, mommy. Get him off of me.

Fei: Fong Hoi Lun, put down the gun and let go of my daughter.

Lun: Kwan, we haven't met for so long. [holding Sum Oiy hostage]

Quin: Lun, do you know what you are doing?

Lun: Very happy family, isn't this? [looks at Quin stomach] And soon will have another member.

Fei[notices and blocks Quin]: Quit the nonsense.

Quin: He has problems, don't raise your voice at him.

Lun: It's you, it's you who has taken her away from me. I know, I'll kill you. That's it. [He faces the gun at Fei and quickly pulled the trigger. Seeing this, Quin was on the verge of pushing Fei aside...]


IN THE BEDROOM...
Quin[shouts]: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh[pops out of bed] Fei!!!

Fei[wakes up]: Kwan, are you ok?

Quin[catching her breath]: Fei, you're ok.

Fei: Yes, I'm fine.

Quin: I'm so confused. He tried to kill you.

Fei: Who?

Quin: Fong Hoi Lun.

Fei: He's in the mental hospital, what are you talking about?

Quin: What? It was so weird. We were getting married soon, I fainted and I had cancer. But then it was all a mistake. I was actually pregnant and...[gave a weird look] Sum Oiy was talking to you in another language?! What was going on?

Fei: Ok ok, it was all a dream. But the fact is, we are getting married and you are pregnant. So far I haven't experience Sum Oiy speak another language to me yet.

Quin: Fei, it was so real.

Fei: That's what we all say. [takes her hand] Pinch me. [She did so] Ouch. It hurts so this is the reality.


THE NEXT DAY...IN THE MENTAL HOSPITAL...
Fei: I told you he's here.

Quin[watches Lun through the glass]: Yes, he's really here.

Fei: Don't worry. Did you say you have things to do for our wedding. I want you to have a good night sleep tonight so you can be the prettiest bride tomorrow.

Quin: Are you trying to say I'm not pretty now?

Fei: No, whatever you say is right.

Quin: No, I don't want to sound like the unreasonable one. [just realized] Stop, this is exactly our conversation. [quickly searches Fei's body for his gun.] Where's your gun?

Fei: What? I had it with me. [Quin looks through the glass to find Lun]

Quin: Where's Ah Lun? Oh no, it's happening.

Lun[standing behind them]: Looking for this?....


IN THE CHURCH...
Fei: I do.

Chin Chin[shakes Quin's shoulder]: Quin, your turn.

Quin: Huh? Oh, I do. [they exchange rings]

Priest: I now announce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride. [everyone applause for them as their lips sank deeply into each others.]

Gigi[sobbing]: I'm alway bad at weddings.

[Nam, May, Man and Chi San standing aside them, all clapped]

Chin Chin[happily watching them.](seeing their happiness, makes me realize that in this world, there is at least this one person who loves me like the two love each other....]


ONE YEAR LATER...IN THE CEMETRY...
[Man and Chi San are paying their visit to Tong Sum...]
Chi San: You never told me the reason why you rejected our marriage?

Man: Do we have to bring it back?

Chi San[holds on to Man]: Yes, I need the answer.

Man: You really want to know?

Chi San: It's about Tong Sum, isn't it?

Man: I don't blame you.

Chi San: I don't get it.

Man: Remember that day, last year. I stopped by the bank before we met with Nam and May?

Chi San: Sort of.

Man: I saw you staring at a clown displayed in the store.

Chi San: Yes, I admit I can not forget Tong Sum but I never will forget her because she will forever stay in our memories. I wasn't actually looking at any clown, but this. [takes out something which made Man smiled....]


IN FEI AND QUIN'S APT...THEIR BEDROOM...
Fei: Lo Pau(wife). He's crying again. [shaking Quin.]

Quin: Lo Gung(husband), it's your turn.

Fei: Sum Yuen(name of their son) is getting louder. [both rolling around, not willing to give in.]

Quin: Yeah, I know.

Fei: No, heads or tails this time? [taking out a coin]


IN A APT...
Agent: Look at the nice view, can't really find it anywhere else.

Nam: How do you like it?

May: Um, it's not bad. [walks to the kitchen.] Wow, not bad at all.

Nam: I guess it's the same for all woman. The decision is made on one point, the kitchen. I guess it is a yes now?

May: Why not.

Agent: Great. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Law!


IN A GYM...
Fei: Honey, I'm taking a shower now.

Quin: I'm done. You're so slow. [they walked till they stop on the outside of the men's shower room.] Be quick, I'll wait for you outside.

Fei: Ok [he walks in]

[minutes later..]

Fei: Kwan. [calling from the inside.]

Quin: Fei? [she hesistated to walk in knowing that it's the men's room] What do you want?

Fei: I dropped my towel on the floor. There's no one in here to help me get another one.

Quin: Oh, alright. [she walks in, finding a towel, she goes closer to Fei's stall] Here. [she hands it to Fei's nake arm]

Fei[finishes and walks out wrapped with a towel on his waist]: Thanks Lo Pau.

Quin[starts to use another towel to wipe his face]: Look at you. Are you cold? [Suddenly notices and smiles] Fei, here...this is where we first met!

Fei[smiles back but later the smiles turns uneasy]: Yeah...this is so embarrassing...

DIRECTOR: CUT CUT CUT!! LOUIS, THAT LINE IS NOT ON THE SCRIPT...

JESSICA[giving Louis a stare]: How embarrassing can this be? We even lived through the bed scene!
