Chapter 8
Outside the police station....
May:You didn't have to react like that to Fei
Quin: I don't even know what i'm doing. and i call mysef a psychiatrist.
how can i help people deal with their problems when i can't even handle mine.
Man : It's going to be okay
Quin looks at Sum Oiy and sees that she is still frighten from the things
that she had said before.
Quin kneeled down to Sum Oiy: Sorry, Sum Oiy. Ma Ma, shouldn't have
yelled at you. Are you mad at ma ma?
Sum Oiy doesn't speak
Quin : Sum Oiy, is there anything that you want? Ma ma will buy it for you
Sum Oiy looks at Quin : i want the LuLu Carty from Mc Dong Dong
Quin : okay, let's go get it now, (to May and Man) you don't mind eating
there tonight, do you?
Man : no, i don't mind, but i want a LuLu Carty too, mommy (and hangs on
to one of Quin's arm)
May hanging on to Quin's other arm : i want it too (ow yow yiew)
Quin : let's go you two big babies (tai sie lo)
Sum Oiy is laughing and since both of Quin's arms are taken, she hangs on
to one of Quin's leg.
And the four of them walk out of the police station
Next day at the police station....
Korean: Gigi, I don't want to go.
Gigi: Come'on, you promised me.
Korean: (5 hai ah ma) My, why do we have to go every year. Those bitchs
should get a life.
Gigi: I don't care, are you going or not? It's a school reunion, once
every year.
Korean: I's still deciding [mumbling to David(another cop)] If I go a
few more times and see those bitchs, I'm going to turn into a bitch(8 pal)
myself!
Gigi : what did you say?
Korean : nothing
Gigi : fine if you really don't want to go then you don't have to
Korean : really, great, just remember, you said that i don't have to go
Gigi : of course, why would i tell you to do something when you don't want
to
Korean : look how understanding my girlfriend is, just remember to have a
nice time
Gigi : oh, don't worry, i will [talking to Sue (another girl cop on their
team)] guess what im going to wear to the reunion?
Sue : i don't know ?
Gigi : remember that dress that i showed you at the mall the other day?
and i said that it looked nice
Sue : you mean the dress that is strapless and was all the way up here
above your knee (puts her hand on her thigh to show the shortness of the
dress)
Korean became interested in their conversation and walked near them
holding a folder
Gigi : yes that's the one
Sue : i remembered that it came with a nice jacket too
Gigi : it did, but i didn't buy it
Korean was more into their talk
Sue : why not? what happens if it gets cold that night? there's really
little material on the dress
Gigi : i didn't think i need it. i thought that Korean was going to go, so
if i do get cold, i can get his jacket, but since he's not going, what else
can i do
Sue : hey, maybe there might be single guys going and you could ask them
to borrow their jackets
Gigi : i might do that
Sue : i admire you so much!! you're going to be the prettiest one there.
you'd probably make all the guys drool. hey remember to ask for their phone
numbers and addre . . .
Korean : hey Gigi
Gigi : what ?
Korean : i've decided to go to the reunion with you
Gigi : really, why? i thought you didn't want to talk with my friends
Korean : me not want to talk to your friends, no way. Wherever my
girlfriend want to go, of course i'll go with her. So how's that Mary or was
it Diane doing?
Fei who was laughing the whole time, picks up the ringing phone...
Fei: Hello . . . (stops laughing) Ok, we'll be there soon.
Fei talking to the guys: A body of little boy is found near the garbage
areas.
They all arrived there....
May: Look at this boy, he's all dressed in dirty rags. He must be really
poor.
Chi San turning on his recorder: It looks to me like the boy is very
young between 5-10 years of age. With all the bruises and scars on him, we
can say he has been constantly beaten by someone. Mr. Lee (corpse examiner),
what have you found?
Mr. Lee: According to what I see, this boy has been dead for at least 24
hours already.
Chi San : do you know the cause of his death?
Mr. Lee : He was beaten to death with hard force. There are at least 30
bruises on him. For further answers, I would have to bring him back and
carefully examine him. (Chi San closes his recorder)
Chi San: Thank you
Gigi: What kind of human being did this to a child? It's inhuman.
May went up and looked closely at this kid.
Chi San : May, do you know him?
May : he looks really familiar. i've seen him before
Chi San : don't worry, you'll think better when you go home and rest. I'll
drive you . . .
May cut's in : Wait, I know this boy. He is from "Ka Bik orphanage" (Ka
Bik Goo Yee Yuen).
Fei: How do you know him?
May: I am an orphan, from the same orphanage. I go back there once in a
while to visit the children.But i haven't gone these past few weeks cause i
was busy.But I remember seeing him there once and later on I heard he was
picked up for foster care already.
Chi San: Do you have a better background info on him?
May: No, there are too many children, I can't exactly remember who is who.
Fei:at least we got a clue to trace on. We can go to Ka Bik orphanage
and check it out.
Chi San : Gigi and Korean go check to see if there are any witnesses
during the scene of the crime.
Gigi: Yes, Ah Toa!
Chi San: Fei, you can go search and see if anyone has reported a missing
child, and May and I will head to the orphanage. We'll fill you guys in back
at the police station.
May gave an unexpected look...
Chi San and May went off to Ka Bik orphanage... May stepped in, the sisters
and children all came out to greet May.
Children shouting:May Ming jah jah(sister)!!
Sister: May, you haven't came for a long time. The kids most be really
happy to see you!This must be your boyfriend. is that why you haven't come
to visit us for such a long time
Kids repeatedly shouting : May jah jah's got a boyfriend
May : no, you've got a misunderstanding, he is not my boyfriend. He's my
boss, Gong Chi San.
Chi San : nice to meet you
Chi San was smiling with joy seeing all these adorable children.
May, very happy: Hi everyone! Did you all miss me?
Children:Yesssss.
May picking up one of them:Hmmm, little Dong (a child's name), let's see
if you got fatter!Wow, ha ha, I see you have eat more than the last time i
saw you! Look at how many spare tires you have. I should put you in my trunk
incase i have a flat, i can always use yours.
May showed the loveable, caring, and sweet side toward children that she
had never shown to anyone else (besides Quin).
Chi San stared at May with a smile. Enjoying her sweet actions. May
turned around and saw Chi San looking and quickly restored back to her real
behavior and put the kid down.
Sister : so what are you doing here instead of meeting the kids?
May : I'm on serious business. We are on a case and would like to know
more information about this boy who died.
Chi San (taking out a picture of the dead boy) : do you remember who he is?
Sister: Yes, he's Kwok Chi Wah. He's inside!
May and Chi San were in shockness and looked at each other....
